Indian Legal System Reform: Seminar #1

A well-functioning justice system is a critical component of a thriving society. The legal system is not just about litigants and lawyers arguing cases in courts and judges delivering justice. The effectiveness of the legal system determines the incentives of all economic actors. How well disputes are resolved determines the level of economic activity one is willing to risk engaging in. The Indian legal system is a kafkaesque nightmare that most citizens would prefer never to engage with. We need to bridge this gap. The journey towards better legal systems in India requires deep research, careful thought, consultation and collaboration. There are many organizations working on different aspects of legal system reform in India, with varying perspectives, each one understanding one part of a complex puzzle. This monthly seminar series on the state of Indian Legal Systems Reforms aims to be a platform for regular engagement across the community of changemakers interested in this field.
